Once the Chinese immigrants arrived in California, they found that the gold mountain was an illusion. Mining was uncertain work, and the gold fields were littered with disappointed prospectors and hostile locals. Work could be scarce, and new arrivals sometimes found it difficult to earn enough to eat, let alone to strike it rich. Even worse, they soon discovered that they were cut off from their families: With no source of money, the immigrants could not pay for their wives and children to make the long voyage from China, and could not go back home themselves. As the dream of gold faded, these men found themselves stranded in a strange new land far from home. It was a land that did not welcome them, a land that afforded them few means of survival, and a land in which they were very much alone.

Bergbau war unsicher Arbeit und die Goldfeldern waren übersät mit enttäuscht Goldsucher und feindliche einheimische. 01–10 Single-Family Redoubt. You grew up on the edge of dwarven civilization, far from the rest of your clan. Interesting question: Why? 11–20 Prospecting Camp. Anywhere from 5 to 20 dwarves call these camps home. Often they represent an extended family attempting to strike it rich. 21–30 Small Mine. The mine could be mundane metals like iron or copper, precious stones like diamonds, or something more exotic. Population ranges from 21 to 50. 31–45 Large Mine. Up to 200 dwarves work a mine of this size.

01-10 Einfamilienhaus Redoubt. Sie wuchs am Rande des Zwergen Zivilisation, weit weg vom Rest der Sippe. Interessante Frage: Warum? 11-20 Prospecting Camp. Überall 5 bis 20 Zwerge nennen diese Camps nach Hause. Oft stellen sie eine Großfamilie versucht, strike it rich. 21-30 Kleine Mine. Die Mine könnte weltlichen Metalle wie Eisen oder Kupfer, Edelsteinen wie Diamanten, oder etwas exotischer sein. Bevölkerung reicht von 21 bis 50. 31-45 Large Mine. Bis zu 200 Zwerge arbeiten eine Mine dieser Größe.
