Bastionen

Am 9. April 641 eroberten die Araber die oströmische Festung. Sie fanden bei ihrer Ankunft eine riesige Burganlage mit 42 Kirchen, großen Türmen und Bastionen vor. Nördlich davon gründete Amr ibn al-As im Jahre 643 das Lager Fustat, das sich allmählch zu einer Stadt entwickelte. Beide Siedlungen wuchsen an der Stelle der heutigen Altstadt von Kairo zusammen.

On 9 April 641 the Arabs conquered the Byzantine fortress. They found when they arrived a huge castle with 42 churches, large towers and bastions before. North of Amr ibn al-As, founded in 643, the bearing Fustat, which developed into a city allmählch. Both settlements grew on the site along the present-day Old Cairo.
