Die unteren Außengehege, die an das Café Belvedere grenzen, zeigen Tiere aus den niederschlagsreichsten Gegenden Afrikas. So kommt das Okapi, eine Urwaldgiraffe, nur in den Regenwäldern des Kongo vor und die Bongos, eine weitere Antilopenart, bevölkern dichten Busch- und Bambusdschungel Afrikas.

The lower open-air enclosures adjacent to Café Belvedere show animals from the rainiest parts of Africa. The okapi, a primeval forest giraffe, for example, is only to be found in the rainforests of the Congo, and the bongos, a further antelope species, populate the dense bush and bamboo forests of Africa.

RUBEN BLADES, geboren am 16. Juli 1948 in Panama City und seit 1974 in New York lebend, ist neben Willie Colon heute der wichtigste Vertreter der sogenannten Salsa-Musik. Salsa heißt zu deutsch 'Soße' und diese ist angerührt mit den verschiedensten Stilen und Rhythmen karibischer Musik, bei BLADES angereichert mit Elementen aus Jazz und Rock. Charakteristisch ist das polyrhythmische Zusammenspiel eines ganzen Arsenals von Schlaginstrumenten wie Bongos, Kongas, Timbales, Kuhglocken, Maracas und natürlich dem Schlagzeug. Über dieses Rhythmusgeflecht werden normalerweise scharfe Bläsersätze gesetzt, die RUBEN BLADES jedoch durch Syntheziser ersetzt hat. RUBEN BLADES lehnt das übliche folkloristische Auftreten dieser Art von Gruppen in bunten Kostümen und mit dem obligaten Macho-Schnauzbart ab.

Ruben Blades, born on July 16th, 1948, in Panama City, and living in New York since 1974, is, next to Willie Colon, the most important representative of the so-called salsa music today. In english, salsa means 'sauce' and this is mixed with the different styles and rhythms of Caribbean music, and enriched with elements from jazz and rock by Blades. Characteristic is the polyrhythmic playing of a whole arsenal of percussion instruments such as bongos, kongas, timbales, cow bells, maracas and naturally, drums. Over this network of rhythms, sharp horn parts were normally placed; however, Ruben Blades has replaced this with the synthesizer. Ruben Blades passed up the normal folklore type of appearance of this type of group with colorful costumes and the obligatory macho mustache.
