Im Januar 1700 wurde die Umgebung Südgeorgiens von Sir Edmund Halley im Zuge seiner Kartografierung von Deklinationen im Südatlantik erforscht.

Sir Edmund Halley surveyed the vicinity of South Georgia in January 1700 in the course of his work of charting magnetic declinations in the South Atlantic.
