Ziel dieser Pruefung ist es festzustellen , bei welcher Konzentration eine Sterblichkeit von 50 % unter den Versuchstieren verursacht wird . Dies ist der sogenannte LC50-Wert , der die Konzentration des Stoffes in Wasser angibt , bei der waehrend eines ununterbrochenen Versuchszeitraums von mindestens 96 Stunden bei 50 % einer Pruefgruppe von Fischen der Tod eintritt . Geeignete Fischarten sind : Zebrabaerbling ( Brachydanio rerio ) , Amerikanische Elritze ( Pimephales promelas ) und Regenbogenforelle ( Oncorhynchus mykiss ) .

The object is to determine the concentration which causes 50 % mortality in the test species ; this is the ( LC50 ) value , namely , the concentration of the substance in water which will cause the death of 50 % of a test group of fish during a continuous period of testing of at least 96 hours . Appropriate types of fish include : striped brill ( Brachydanio rerio ) , fathead minnow ( Pimephales promelas ) and rainbow trout ( Oncorhynchus mykiss ) .
