Der Herstellprozess ist relativ energieaufwändig und als Fertigungslosverfahren quasikontinuierlich. Die Produktionsdauer eines Fertigungsloses beträgt dabei mehrere Wochen. Die Prozess-Schritte sind: • Stabilisierung des Precursors • Karbonisierung • Behandlung der Faseroberfläche • Aufbringen einer Präparation • Aufspulen auf Hülsen

Während der Karbonisierung lagern sich die Pyridin-Ketten unter Abspaltung von Cyanwasserstoff und Stickstoff zu molekularen Bändern zusammen. Gleichzeitig erfolgt eine Orientierung in der dritten Dimension, so dass eine graphitartige Struktur entsteht.
