A method for forming a metal coating on a surface of a substrate comprising: (a) providing a reactor according to any preceding claim; (b) heating the bed zone; (c) introducing a motive stream of reactive gas into the reactor such that the flow of gas in the reactor is in an upward direction; and (d) heating the substrate zone.
