Myrthen

Ein Pavillion wurde im Dorfzentrum errichtet und in der Mitte von diesem befestigte man einen 4m hohen Holzpfosten, welcher mit Myrthen und Bachfarnen geschmückt war und jedermann tanzte um diesen herum.

The feast of São João is the midsummer festival still held on 24th of June, and in Várzea Grande it used to be celebrated in style. A pavilion was erected in the centre of the village, in the middle of which was placed a 4m high pole, decorated with myrtle and river ferns, that everybody would dance around.
