Herr Präsident, ich möchte die Kommission fragen, wann sie gedenkt, den von der GD XIV in Auftrag gegebenen Bericht- Aktenzeichen PEM/306- über die physische Wechselwirkung zwischen Kegelrobben, den eingesetzten Fanggeräten und dem unnormalen Raubverhalten der Robben im Nordatlantik, im Nordwestatlantik und inzwischen auch im Südatlantik zu behandeln.

Mr President, I would like to ask the Commission when they propose to deal with the report which was commissioned by DG XIV- reference PEM/ 306- concerning the physical interaction between grey seals, fishing gear and the abnormal predatory conditions of the seals in the North Atlantic, the North-West Atlantic and now penetrating into the South Atlantic.

-Ostfalkland: Es ist die größte der im Südatlantik gelegenen Falklandinseln.

In den letzten zwei Wochen hatte Greenpeace ein Schiff mitten im Südatlantik, wo viele Schiffe unter Gefälligkeitsflaggen angetroffen wurden, die Thun fischten.

For the past two weeks, Greenpeace has had a ship in the middle of the South Atlantic where they have found plenty of vessels catching tuna, flying these flags of convenience.

Auch wenn die Fischereiproblematik im Nordpazifik, Südpazifik, Nordatlantik, Südatlantik, im Ostseeraum, im Mittelmeerraum sowie in der Zwölfmeilenzone differenziert werden muß, so bleibt doch festzuhalten, daß grundsätzlich die Verwendung von Treibnetzen überall in gleichem Maße verhängnisvoll ist.

Even if we have to make a distinction between the fishing problems in the North Pacific, the South Pacific, the North Atlantic, the South Atlantic, the Baltic Sea, the Mediterranean and within the twelve-mile limits, the fact remains that, basically, the use of driftnets is disastrous everywhere.
