Die Bachwoche 2014 wird erstmals die Motetten und Orchestersuiten des Thomaskantors in den Blick nehmen und diese mit entsprechenden Werken der älteren Bach-Familie und der Vorgänger Bachs an der Thomaskirche konfrontieren — ein erhellender Blick in die Musikgeschichte! Erstmals findet auch im Rahmen der Bachwoche ein Meisterkurs für Ensemblegesang statt, den das Calmus Ensemble bestreitet. Calmus mit seiner einzigartigen Besetzung aus Sopranistin, Countertenor, Tenor, Bariton und Bass ist heutzutage eine der erfolgreichsten Vokalgruppen Deutschlands. Die fünf Leipziger haben eine ganze Reihe internationaler Preise und Wettbewerbe gewonnen. Geprägt von der vielhundertjährigen Tradition großer deutscher Knabenchöre sind sie in der Vokalmusik der Renaissance, des Barock und der Romantik zu Hause. Darüber hinaus hat Calmus über die Jahre zahlreiche Kompositionsaufträge vergeben und Uraufführungen gesungen.

Wie ein Urlaub für die Seele: Malerische Klangwelten und große symphonische Werke prägen diese Saison der Bregenzer Meisterkonzerte. Am 29. März tritt im Großen Saal des Festspielhauses das Casal Quartett auf, unterstützt von der international gefeierten Sopranistin Christiane Oelze. Gemeinsam spielen sie Werke von Franz Schubert, Aribert Reimann und Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. Den Abschluss der Konzertserie bildet am 4. Mai das Gastspiel des BBC Philharmonic mit Dirigent Juanjo Mena und der Cellistin Sol Gabetta. Sie ist zweifache Preisträgerin des ECHO Klassik und war bereits für einen Grammy nominiert. An diesem Abend werden Stücke von Dmitrij Schostakowitsch und Gustav Mahler zu hören sein.
