Die Seeschlange gehört zu der Familie der Schlangen. Ihre nächsten Verwandten sind dabei die australoasiatischen Giftnattern, zu denen etwa die Taipane, Braunschlangen und Schwarzottern gehören. Von den marinen Seeschlangen sind etwa 56 Arten bekannt. Seeschlagen leben in den tropischen Meeresregionen wie zum Beispiel im Indischen Ozean und im Pazifischen Ozean. Man kann sie auch vor dem Persischen Golf treffen und auch in Australien. Fast alle Seeschlangen legen in Küstennähe außer einer nämlich die Plätten-Seeschlange. Die Seeschlangen ernähren sich hauptsächlich von Fischen. Die Seeschlange hat außer dem Menschen auch andere Feinde. Wie zum Beispiel Wale, Tigerhai man sagt, dass das Gift der Schlange nichts dem Hai antun kann genauso der Seeadler.
