Dieses Kriterium kann als ungefaehres Mass fuer den Beitrag einer bestimmten Population zur genetischen Vielfalt der Art sowie fuer die Verletzlichkeit dieser spezifischen Population ausgelegt werden . Vereinfacht koennte man sagen , dass der Beitrag einer Population zur genetischen Vielfalt der Art um so groesser ist , je staerker die Population ( vom natuerlichen Verbreitungsgebiet ) isoliert ist . Folglich sollte der Begriff _DOUBLEQUOTE_ Isolierung _DOUBLEQUOTE_ in einem breiteren Kontext gesehen werden und auch auf streng endemische Arten , Unterarten / Varietaeten / Rassen sowie auf Unterpopulationen einer Metapopulation bezogen werden . In diesem Zusammenhang sollte folgende Einstufung verwendet werden :

This criterion may be interpreted as an approximate measure of the contribution of a given population to the genetic diversity of the species on the one hand and of the fragility of this specific population on the other hand . Using a simplistic approach one may say that the more a population is isolated ( in relation to its natural range ) , the greater is its contribution to the genetic diversity of the species . Consequently the term 'isolation ' should be considered in a wider context , applying equally to strict endemics , to sub-species / varieties / races as well as sub-populations of a meta-population .
