Lemke hat sich gefunden. Nachdem er sich in Berlin zunächst dem Realismus widmete, führte seine Entwicklung einen Schritt weiter: In die Auseinandersetzung mit dem Abstrakten ohne absolute Verneinung des Realismus, wie sie Klee und Kandinsky forcierten. In Markus Lüpertz fand er an der Düsseldorfer Kunstakademie einen Professor und Mentor, der ihn durch seine künstlerischen wie menschlichen Qualitäten überzeugte. Dessen intuitiv gesetzte Farben und Formen wirkten auf Lemke authentisch und konsequent. Er wurde Lüpertz-Meisterschüler.
