Der Blick eines Wiener Passanten des Jahres 1912 führt den Film gleich einer Zeitmaschine in die Schlacht am Isonzo, den Wiener Prater und zur Bestrafung delinquenter Vorstadt-Lausbuben, in der Porto-Episode träumen Mütter in der Sardinenfabrik von der Überwindung ihrer Verhältnisse.

The gaze of a passer-by in Vienna in 1912 immediately sends the film through a time machine to the Battle of Isonzo, to Vienna's Prater and to the punishing of local delinquents. In the Porto episode, mothers in the sardine factory dream of their escape to a better life.
