That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David;

Er ist nur ein Mann, der eine Lüge gegen Gott erdichtet hat. Und wir glauben ihm nicht.»

"He is only a man who has invented a lie against Allah, but we are not going to believe in him."

Oder sagen sie: "Er hat es erdichtet?"

Or do they say, "He has forged it"?

Sag: "Sollte ich ihn erdichtet haben, würdet ihr für mich vor ALLAH nichts machen können!

(If so), tell them: “If I have fabricated it, then you have no power to protect me from Allah's chastisement.

Nein, er hat ihn erdichtet.

Nay, he has forged it; nay, he is a poet!

Ihr erdichtet ja nur Lügen.

(In attributing partners to Allah) you have merely been fabricating lies.

37 Wer ist wohl frevelhafter als der; der eine Lüge wider Allah erdichtet oder Seine Zeichen der Lüge zeiht? Diesen soll das ihnen bestimmte Los werden, bis Unsere Boten zu ihnen kommen, ihnen den Tod zu bringen; sie werden sprechen: «Wo ist nun das, was ihr statt Allah anzurufen pflegtet?» Jene werden antworten: «Wir können sie nicht finden»; und sie werden gegen sich selbst Zeugnis ablegen, daà sie Ungläubige waren.

37 Who is then more unjust than he who forges a lie against Allah or rejects His communications? (As for) those, their portion of the Book shall reach them, until when Our messengers come to them causing them to die, they shall say: Where is that which you used to call upon besides Allah? They would say: They are gone away from us; and they shall bear witness against themselves that they were unbelievers
