Der ansteigende Verlauf liegt daran, dass der Kühler des Kompressors lokal, aber nicht komplett einfriert. Durch das Einfrieren wird der effektive Querschnitt kleiner, die komprimierte Luft strömt schneller an den noch offenen Stellen vorbei und wird weniger gekühlt. Irgendwann ist der Anstieg ist so groß, dass die durchströmende Luft den Kühler wieder partiell auftaut.
