Die Jahre 1953, 1956, 1968 in Ostdeutschland, Polen, Ungarn und der Tschechoslowakei sprechen für ihre historische Wichtigkeit. Es war aber auch so, dass Solidarność die Bürgerrechtsbewegungen in Mittel- und Osteuropa wie zum Beispiel die Charta 77, die die klassisch-politischen Menschenrechte verfolgte, oder „ Schwerter zu Pflugscharen“ im damaligen Ostdeutschland, die sich friedenspolitisch engagierte, oder die ökologisch orientierte Dunakör-Bewegung in Ungarn unterstützte und stärkte.
