Das Nachrichtenmagazin Der Spiegel veröffentlichte aus ihm zugespielten Dokumenten, dass gegen Würth und fünf weitere Personen aus dem Umfeld des Konzerns die Staatsanwaltschaft Stuttgart bereits seit Herbst 2006 ermittelt hatte.[5] Ende Mai 2008 wurde bekannt, dass Würth der Einstellung des Verfahrens gegen eine Geldstrafe zustimmte. Das Amtsgericht Heilbronn verhängte gegen Würth einen Strafbefehl in Höhe von 700 Tagessätzen. Der Unternehmer gilt damit als vorbestraft.[6] Gegen zwei andere Verantwortliche der Würth-Gruppe wurden ebenfalls Geldstrafen festgesetzt. Das Steuerverfahren ist damit beendet, da alle Betroffenen die Strafbefehle akzeptiert haben.[7]
