The investigations made until the present comprise of a doppler ultrasound, a CT scanning without contrast material (as the child is allergic), a biopsy of sampling tissue and blood tests.

It is used primarily to assist pathologists in determining cause and manner of death but is also invaluable for identification of unknown deceased individuals where traditional methods are not possible. Based on this experience, CT scanning was incorporated into phase 2 of the Institute's DVI process for the 2009 Victorian bushfires. All deceased individuals and fragmented remains admitted to the mortuary were CT scanned in their body bags using established protocols. Alle verstorbenen Personen und fragmentierten Überreste aufgenommen an der Leichenhalle CT in ihren Leichensäcken mit etablierte Protokollen gescannt wurden. Bilder wurden von 2 Teams von 2 Radiologen in forensische Bildgebung erlebt und die Erkenntnisse Standardformulars ein Datenblatt erstellt speziell für die DVI-Übung geprüft.
