Even more understudied – and not just in security studies of Asia, but in the wider security studies field as well – are the threats to security emanating from the state and directed against its own citizens or civilians of another nation: state-led massacres, coercion, torture, intimidation and other acts of state terrorism. Again, there is no lack of potential case material based on Asian experiences.
