If catalyst is added after the drums or IBC’s have been filled then normally after initial mechanical mixing an “air lance” is used to mix the catalyst. This is a small pipe put to the bottom of the drum/IBC and air slowly bubbled through the pipe from a compressed air line ( dried air). The bubbling of the air helps mix the catalyst into the sealant and also adds air to the sealant to help with protection against polymerization while stored in the drums. Obviously as soon as the sealant is put into the machine, this air is removed by the vacuum, but the sealant is also cooled by the machine cooling system so has more protection against polymerization and does not need the air as much
