Among the appointments of Nero's early reign which can be traced to Seneca are those of his brother, Annaeus Junius Gallio, to a suffect consulship in 55, his brother-in-law, Pompeius Paulinus, to the post of governor of Lower Germany in or shortly before the year 55 and significantly, the selection of his friend, Annaeus Serenus, to be praefectus vigilum c. 54.
