Two years previously, the Philharmonic Orchestra (directed by Felix Weingartner) included Wellesz’ „symphonic tone poem“ „Vorfrühling“ in their programme and in 1931 and 1932 his opera “The Bacchae” after Euripides was performed at the Vienna Opera House under the direction of Clemens Krauss. Eventually, in 1934 and 1935, two leading articles on the composer were issued in „Der Anbruch”, the most important magazine in the field of modern music. These granted him effusive praise as a “musician who fully realized the responsibility of the creative artist” and in whose works the “basic elements of music, such as melody, harmony and rhythm are newly discovered and brought into a new context.”

Zwei Jahre vorher hatten die Philharmoniker (unter Felix Weingartner) Wellesz' "symphonisches Stimmungsbild" "Vorfrühling" in ihr Programm aufgenommen, und 1931 sowie 1932 ging seine Oper "Die Bakchantinnen" nach Euripides sogar in der Wiener Staatsoper unter der Leitung von Direktor Clemens Krauss über die Bühne. Schließlich waren 1934 und 1935 im "Anbruch", der wichtigsten Zeitschrift für den Bereich der modernen Musik, zwei große Artikel über den Komponisten erschienen, in denen er ein geradezu überschwengliches Lob als "Musiker, der sich der Verantwortung des schöpferischen Künstlers in hohem Maße bewußt gewesen ist", erfahren hatte sowie als Meister, in dessen Oeuvre "die Grundelemente der Musik neu erlebt und neu in Zusammenhang zueinander gebracht werden: Melodie, Harmonie und Rhythmus".
