Global change encompasses the complex dynamic changes over different time-scales in the physical, chemical and biological components of the Earth system (i.e. atmosphere, oceans and land) in particular those influenced by human activities.

Der Begriff globale Veränderungen bezeichnet die komplexen dynamischen Veränderungen der physikalischen, chemischen und biologischen Komponenten des Systems Erde (d. h. Atmosphäre, Ozeane und Land) innerhalb unterschiedlicher Zeiträume, insbesondere die durch menschliche Tätigkeiten beeinflussten Veränderungen.
