Usquaebach has gone through several incarnations since it was first created in 1768. From 1768 to 1842 it was single malt. Between 1842 and 1904 it became a vatted Scotch whisky (a blend of single malts, often from different years from the same distiller, but never any grain whisky). Then, in 1904, it became a ‘malt-rich’ blend, where 85% of the blend was malt whisky and 15% was grain whisky. An American company, 12 Stone Flagons bought the distillery in 1973. Starting in the 1980s they began to release a line of aged Highland Single Malt whiskies to broaden their product base. Though it may be a ‘changeling’, the Original is still and always has been the company’s flagship. Cobalt Brands now owns it and it is back in production. It is currently available in the United States, currently distributed in the NY/NJ area

With respect to the brand rep, this is all a bit silly. According to the text, “Usquaebach has gone through several incarnations since it was first created in 1768. ” But this marketing spiel utterly confuses (one spelling of) the Gaelic name for whisky with one particular brand, known as Usquaebach. Neither Scotch whisky nor the brand itself was “first created in 1768″, and I can guarantee that neither Christies (?) in 1768 nor Robert Burns ever heard of this brand! As far as I’m aware, the brand once belonged to Douglas Laing. There was no Scotch whisky distillery called Usquaebach in 1973, so I’m not sure what 12 Stone Flagons might have purchased back then… John, I think you should ask Cobalt just where they got their information! 4

In Bezug auf die Marke Rep das ist alles ein bisschen dumm.

Aber diese marketing-Spiel völlig verwirrt (eine Schreibweise) der gälische Name für Whisky mit einer bestimmten Marke, bekannt als Usquaebach. Scotch Whisky weder die Marke selbst war "zuerst im 1768″ erstellt und kann garantieren, dass weder Christies (?) 1768 noch Robert Burns schon mal etwas von dieser Marke!
 
 Soweit mir bekannt, gehörte die Marke Douglas Laing.
 
 Es gab keine Whiskybrennerei in 1973, Usquaebach genannt, also bin ich nicht sicher, was damals 12 Stein personalisiert gekauft haben könnte...

I had an incredible day with the owner of Twelve Stone Flagons in 1980. His name is Stanley J. Stankiwicz. From what I can tell from this blog, he was not in good health and eventually sold the company. Spent a day on his boat and drinking Usquaebach. I have a miniature that reads, “The Grand Whisky of the Highlands . . . Usquaebach . . . Blended Scotch Whisky.” I am going to share my story at an “Open That Bottle Night” event tonight. I wish I had spent more time learning about Usquaebach and the company when we were together. Can anyone share some history with me? Thank you.

Ich hatte einen unglaublichen Tag mit dem Eigentümer der zwölf Stein personalisiert, 1980. Sein Name ist Stanley J. Stankiwicz.
