While Rotella fans from way back might think the crackling, electric Wes Montgomery-flavored licks on Can't Stop are a departure, the guitarist is simply reverting back to the style he intended to begin his solo career with all along. It's notable not only for Rotella's thicker production values and bolder sense of improvisation, but also for the pointed conversations he has with the horns of Rick Braun (trumpet and flugelhorn) and Gerald Albright (sax); none of his old albums had sax embellishment at all.

I am extremely pleased with this horn. The stainless steel valves are as fast as the fastest pistons I've ever used, comparing favorably with the Olds' Ambassador cornet and the Benge 90B. The Amati 1-1/2C flugelhorn mouthpiece that comes with it is very nice, in part because of the added mass. (See a picture of the mouthpiece attached to their AFH 204 at http://www.amati.cz/english/producti...h/afh_204g.htm. The 1-1/2C is a little too big for me, so I got a Benge 5C flugel mouthpiece that works really well for me. This Amati pro horn is at least as nice as any Yamaha. Intonation is excellent and the trigger, when necessary, is quick and smooth. The bell is a large 6.3 inches. The AFH601I-O has a .437 inch bore with nickel silver leadpipe, vertical valve slides and a 3rd valve slide trigger with adjustable slide stop. A professional horn for a student price is an unbeatable deal.

This is a SUPERB flugelhorn for the money. I tested it against a $2000 Yamaha flugel and there was no difference in quality. The valves are fabulous-tight, smooth as glass. The quality of construction is top notch. The finish is perfect. The tonality is very rich. Don't mistake this top-of-the-line model with Amati's other flugels-there is no comparison. It comes with an excellent (though heavy) 1.5 Amati mpc. The mouthpiece shank is the same as Yamaha's. The case is extremely heavy duty (and heavy).
