The leading edge of the specimen is exposed while washing away some of our incredibly tenaceous pocket mud in the new west crosscut near the current face of the main tunnel. At the end of the 2011 collecting season we discovered an exposure of fluorite along the main tunnel wall which looked promising. Upon returning in 2012 we began a westward heading crosscut at this spot, and the area had been more or less continually productive through much of the summer.

The EF100-300/5.6L is the only lens in this group which uses fluorite or UD elements (it has one of each) to achieve "apochromatic" status. It's an old lens, introduced very early on in EOS history (1987). It was dropped from the Canon lineup around 2000. No USM, no full time manual focus, rotating front element, push-pull zoom, no tripod mount. It's a constant f5.6, which means it's a stop or so slower than the other lenses at the short end.

Major diagenetic processes during cement growth include precipitation of anhydrite, fluorite and barite, calcitization of dolomite and internal sedimentation. Relating these processes to cement zonation allows this complex diagenesis to be explained in terms of uplift under the influence of meteoric-derived groundwaters of constantly changing geochemical and electrochemical characteristics.
