In 1912 he was appointed assistant botanist to Alfred Ewart at the National Herbarium of Victoria.

1912 wurde er zum Assistenzbotaniker von Alfred Ewart am National Herbarium of Victoria.

Afterwards he returned to Java, where he worked from 1934 to 1940 as a teacher, and, starting from 1941 as a curator in the herbarium of the Buitenzorg Botanical Garden.

Teil dieser Arbeit promoviert und kehrte anschließend wieder nach Java zurück, wo er von 1934 bis 1940 als Lehrer und ab 1941 als Kustos im Herbarium des Botanischen Gartens Buitenzorg arbeitete.

. Of the four commonly accepted subspecies, they belong to M. karwinskiana ssp. karwinskiana. Populations conforming to that description have been previously reported from as far north as the state of Michoacan, about 400 km southeast of the Las Tres Islas Marias. This new location suggests the possibility that the plants were brought to the islands by other than natural means. Herbarium specimens will be provided for MEXU and DBG.

Die Populationen gemäß dieser Beschreibung wurden zuvor aus so weit nördlich wie Staat Michoacan, etwa 400 km südöstlich von Las Tres Islas Marias berichtet. Dieser neue Standort legt die Möglichkeit nahe, dass die Pflanzen auf den Inseln wurden von anderen als natürlichen Mitteln gebracht. Herbarexemplare wird für MEXU und DBG zur Verfügung gestellt werden.
