The International Grains Council called time on deepening gloom over US corn harvest estimates, even as results of a much-watched US crop tour suggested that forecast for some areas may already be too low. The council cut by 26m tonnes, to 838m tonnes, its forecast for the world corn harvest in 2012-13, warning that "drought has stressed crops across the northern hemisphere", including Ukraine but particularly in the US, the top producer.
