I drove for long hours on end in the hope of reaching a point from which I could, in the next few days, explore the remoter coastal stretches of the southern tip. Evening was rapidly approaching, and I had no accommodation booked for the night. I had relied, all along, on finding somewhere reasonably cheap and reasonably comfortable – and by and large had succeeded, with only a few “night-mare” stop-overs, which were quickly abandoned. But this time, my luck was running out. The few B&Bs at which I stopped, optimistically enquiring for a single room, were all fully booked or “not available”, and the prospect of having to sleep in my car was becoming a looming reality.

Ich fuhr für lange Stunden am Ende in der Hoffnung auf einen Punkt, von dem ich in den nächsten Tagen die abgelegeneren Küste erstreckt sich von der Südspitze erforschen konnte, zu erreichen. Am Abend wurde rasch näher, und ich hatte keine Unterkunft für die Nacht gebucht. Ich hatte berufen, alle zusammen, auf irgendwo finden, ziemlich billig und relativ komfortabel – und im großen und ganzen war es gelungen, mit nur ein paar "Night-Mare" Zwischenlandungen, die schnell wieder aufgegeben wurden. Aber dieses Mal mein Glück lief heraus. Die wenigen B & Bs, an dem ich angehalten, optimistisch für ein Einzelzimmer erkundigen, waren alle ausgebucht, oder "nicht verfügbar", und die Aussicht, dass in meinem Auto schlafen war immer eine sich abzeichnende Realität.
