After WW I the Indian factory decided it was time to market a somewhat lighter model than the 1000cc Powerplus. The new model was labelled “Scout” and it created a sensation when brought out in 1920. The strong points of the new design were easy handling, lightness, ample power for the 1920s roads and unbeatable reliability. The new middleweight was also appealing to the prospective motorcyclists who were put off by the usual heavyweight big twins. The Scout features a semi-unit construction power plant with a 3 –speed transmission bolted on to it. Primary drive is by a set of helical gears that are enclosed in a cast aluminium cover and run in an oil bath. The clutch is foot-controlled. A new feature for 1923 is the compression release rod that is activated from the top of the petrol tank. Note also the sprung seat post. This practical ( low-built) Indian is an older restoration

 Das neue Modell "Scout" gekennzeichnet war, und es wurde eine Sensation wenn 1920 herausgebracht. 
 Die Stärken des neuen Designs waren, einfache Handhabung, Leichtigkeit, ausreichend Leistung für die 1920er Jahre Straßen und unschlagbare Zuverlässigkeit. 
 Die neue Mittelgewicht war auch attraktiv für die zukünftige Motorradfahrer, die durch die üblichen Schwergewicht große Zwillinge aufgeschoben wurden. 
 Die Scout verfügt über ein Semi-unit Bau-Kraftwerk mit 3 –speed Getriebe verschraubt auf ihn. 
 Primärantrieb ist durch eine Reihe von Schrägverzahnungen, die in einer Besetzung Aluminiumabdeckung eingeschlossen sind und laufen im Ölbad. 
 Die Kupplung ist Fuß-gesteuert. 
 Ein neues Feature für 1923 ist die Kompression Freigabe-Rute, die von der Spitze der Benzintank aktiviert wird.
