Mr President, after four weeks of popular demonstrations, marches, sit-ins and strikes by students and workers, four weeks of unrest and protest by an entire country, with the streets and squares seething with people of all conditions and ages, it is as if a spectre is hovering restlessly over the whole of Serbia- the spectre of communism, which seems to have vanished for ever if we are to believe the press and television news that we have the pleasure, or displeasure, of reading and hearing, at least in Italy.

Herr Präsident, seit über vier Wochen halten nun schon die Volksproteste, Demonstrationen, sit-ins und Studenten- und Arbeiterstreiks an, seit über vier Wochen ist ein ganzes Land auf den Beinen, gehen die Menschen in Massen und unabhängig von sozialer Herkunft und Alter auf die Straße, und es scheint, als schwebte ein Gespenst über ganz Serbien: das Gespenst des Kommunismus, das endgültig verschwunden zu sein schien, wenn wir den Zeitungs- und Fernsehberichten Glauben schenken wollen, die zu lesen und zu sehen wir das Vergnügen oder vielleicht auch das zweifelhafte Vergnügen haben, zumindest in Italien.
