Although her works always refer to certain social, economic, or political situations, Genzken is primarily one thing: a sculptress. Her concrete and window sculptures from the 1980s and 90s deal in an almost classical way with the geometry of bodies, with proportions, with the relationship between inside and outside. At the same time, they refer as architectural fragments, ruins or models to the postwar dreariness which developed in West German big cities from the visions of the Bauhaus.

Auch wenn ihre Arbeit immer auf bestimmte soziale, ökonomische oder politische Situationen verweist, ist die Künstlerin vor allem eines – Bildhauerin. Ihre Beton- und Fensterskulpturen der Achtziger und Neunziger beschäftigen sich auf fast klassische Weise mit der Geometrie der Körper, mit Proportionen, dem Verhältnis von Innen und Außen. Zugleich verweisen sie als architektonische Fragmente, Ruinen oder Modelle auf die Nachkriegs-Tristesse, die sich in westdeutschen Großstädten aus den Visionen des Bauhauses entwickelt hat.

"Dialog Skulptur" also casts a keener look at sculptors represented in the Collection of the City of Würzburg and in the Ruppert Collection, which have been concentrating on Concrete Art in Europe since 1945 – for instance Hans Arp, Erwin Heerich, and Ulrich Rückriem. One of the show’s special highlights is Maquette for Sun Disc/Moon Shadow V, a steel sculpture by the important American sculptress Louise Nevelson, who has traveled from New York to Germany for the occasion.
