I knew the conversation was for our benefit and it did the job of making me feel wretched about the whole thing. We were good kids. I knew we were. I began to feel more and more annoyed that Mark Green had got away with everything. He should be the one sitting here, not us! It wasn't fair! Nick jerked his head in the direction of the door and we took that as our cue to move. We peeled ourselves off the seats, avoiding the eyes of the other two guys, and traipsed along behind Nick to the car park. We often argued over who got to ride shotgun, but not today. No one wanted to be in the front seat, but Bobby pulled the short straw there.
