Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, this coming 27 January will mark the sixtieth anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camp at Auschwitz.

Before moving on to the objections concerning the topical and urgent debate, I should like to congratulate our colleague Mr Menrad, who is celebrating his sixtieth birthday.

Wir kommen zu den schriftlich begründeten Einsprüchen, nicht ohne unserem Kollegen, Herrn Menrad, zum 60. Geburtstag zu gratulieren.

I speak with a certain interest since my own next birthday will be my sixtieth and I would be very glad, therefore, if we were to carry Amendment No 4 recommending the creation of special funds to deal with the future overhang of pension liabilities as that is one of the troubles that may beset us.

Ich spreche hier gewissermaßen schon in eigener Sache, weil ich demnächst sechzig werde und daher sehr froh wäre, wenn wir Änderungsantrag 4 annehmen würden, in dem die Bildung von Sonderfonds vorgeschlagen wird, um den künftigen Überhang an Rentenverbindlichkeiten in den Griff zu bekommen, denn ansonsten wird uns diese Frage möglicherweise arg zu schaffen machen.

The problem is so topical that it was highlighted by Professor Edward Andersson in a message in one of a collection of papers in honour of the sixtieth birthday of the Finnish Judge of the Court of Justice of the EC, Leif Sevón, as well as in the communication from the Commission.

Die Problematik ist so aktuell, dass sie von Professor Edward Andersson in der Jubiläumsschrift anlässlich des 60. Geburtstages des finnischen Richters beim Gerichtshof der Europäischen Gemeinschaften, Leif Sevón, aufgegriffen wurde -wie auch von der Kommission in ihrer Mitteilung.
