As mentioned above, sedimentation of the Tertiary Ebro Basin was contemporaneous with the development of the Pyrenean Range. The stratigraphic and sedimentological study of the Oligo- Miocene series reveals syndepositional tectonics as the main controlling factor in alluvial sedimentation. During episodes of increasing sedimentary supply/ subsidence ratio, mainly related to episodes of tectonic activity, progradation of the fans was recorded and coarsening-upward stratigraphic trends developed. In contrast, during periods of relative tectonic inactivity, sedimentary supply/subsidence ratio decreased and retrogradation of these systems and fining-upward stratigraphic trends were registered.

Wie bereits erwähnt, war die Sedimentation des Tertiär Ebro-Becken zeitgleich mit der Entwicklung der Pyrenäen Range. Die stratigraphische und sedimentologische Studie des Oligo-Miozän Serie offenbart syndepositional Tektonik als Hauptbestandteil Kontrollfaktor bei angeschwemmten Sedimentation. Während Episoden der zunehmenden sedimentären Versorgung / Absenkung-Verhältnis, vor allem Folgen der tektonischen Aktivität verwandt, wurde Progradation der Fans aufgezeichnet und Vergröberung-aufwärts stratigraphischen Trends entwickelt. Im Gegensatz dazu während der Perioden relativer tektonischen Inaktivität reduziert sedimentären Versorgung / Absenkung Verhältnis und Retrogradation dieser Systeme und Schönung-aufwärts stratigraphischen Trends registriert wurden.

Raising of geotherms during extension caused effective weakening of the lithosphere, which is also a significant factor in the localization of intracontinental Tertiary compression. The External Zone of the Betic Cordilleras records only relatively small increments of the Pyrenean collision (De Ruig, this issue). This collision resulted in differential block movements during the Paleocene and Eocene. The main compression occurred at the Middle to Late Miocene boundary during northward thin-skinned tectonics with intermittant strike-slip deformation. Compression also began in the Middle Miocene in the Tell and External Rif of northern Africa.
