Survival was defined as patients who were alive, not intubated for mechanical ventilation and tracheotomy-free.

Swallowing and nutrition problems are a major issue for septic patients in the intensive care unit not only in the acute phase but also as long-term complaint. In the first weeks after onset of sepsis persisting major neurological symptoms, physical weakness, and presence of a tracheotomy seem to be major negative factors disturbing swallowing. But dysphagia often persists even after disappearance of the mentioned factors after the early rehabilitation phase.

Schlucken und Ernährung Probleme sind ein wichtiges Thema für septischen Patienten in der Intensivstation nicht nur in der akuten Phase, sondern auch als langfristige Beschwerde. In den ersten Wochen nach Beginn der Sepsis anhaltenden großen neurologische Symptome, körperliche Schwäche, und das Vorhandensein einer Tracheotomie scheinen erhebliche negative Faktoren stören schlucken sein. Aber Dysphagie oft bleibt auch nach dem Verschwinden der genannten Faktoren nach dem frühen Phase der Rehabilitation.
