In the other case of a monopoly the supplier can influence the quantity of the market. In this case he produces up to the point where the marginal costs are equal to the marginal revenue. The last case is seen in neoclassic theory as inefficient. Generally, all other market models are sub cases of these two. The microeconomic theory is unhistorical and in almost all cases unempirical.
