Cork oak

Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts hatten hanseatische Kaufleute die Rinde einer Korkeiche nach Bremen gebracht, um sie dort als Verschluss zuschneiden und damit ihre importierten Weine in Flaschen verschließen zu lassen.

At the beginning of the 19th century, Hanseatic merchants brought the bark of a cork tree to Bremen to tailor it there as a closure and in this way to close their imported wines in bottles.

Der Rest ist mit Eukalyptusbäumen für die Herstellung von Papierzellstoff und dem Wunderbaum, der Korkeiche, bestanden.

The rest is eucalyptus for producing wood pulp for paper, and also that extraordinary tree, the cork oak.

Namengebend für Suberin ist der Artname der Korkeiche ("Quercus suber").

Suberin is a main constituent of cork, and is named after the Cork Oak, "Quercus suber".

Auch Steineiche ("Quercus ilex"), Korkeiche ("Quercus suber") und Olivenbäume ("Olea europaea") sind zu finden.
