Frau Präsidentin, Herr Kommissar, ich möchte Herrn McGowan sehr viel Anerkennung für diesen Bericht aussprechen. Ich bin froh, daß meine Vorrednerin, Kollegin und Freundin schon alles gesagt hat, was ich sagen wollte.

Ich möchte insbesondere an das Problem der afrikanischen Elefantenpopulationen sowie auf die Gefahr eines erneuten illegalen Elfenbeinhandels, auf das Problem des weißen Nashorns und der Art des damit verbundenen Handels hinweisen, vor allem was die Herstellung von Arzneimitteln in Fernost betrifft, ein Thema, das zum Teil auch mit dem Thema der Tigerjagd im Zusammnhang steht, das in den Ausführungen der Vorrednerin zur Sprache gebracht wurde.

I would draw particular attention to the problem of the elephant population in Africa and the risk of a return to the illegal trade in ivory, as well as the problem of the white rhino and the type of trade connected with it, above all for the production of medicines in Asia. This issue ties in partly with that of tiger hunting, to which the previous speaker referred.

Wie meine Vorrednerin sagte, hat die Reparaturklausel eine wichtige Rolle gespielt.
