I live in Jersey in The Channel Islands.

The largest political unit is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and the Northern Ireland, often shortened to the UK or, more informally, Britain. By this is meant the four nations of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The Isle of Man, between Ireland and Great Britain, and the Channel Islands, off the northwest coast of France, have their own parliaments and laws.

Unless specially signified, they are not bound by British Acts of Parliament, though the British government is responsible for defence and international relations. Over the past three hundred years they have become increasingly independent from Britain. Although, in contrast to the UK, the Channel Islands do not belong to the European Union, they have a special relationship with it.
