Beginning in 2007 at Ron Paul rallies, the Gadsden Flag has been adapted as a symbol of the American Tea Party Movement.[13][14] Nationwide it serves as an addendum to the Stars and Stripes, representing the Tea Party movement's grass-roots activism.[15][16] It was also seen being displayed by members of Congress at Tea Party movement rallies.[17] Some lawmakers have dubbed it a political symbol because of the Tea Party movement connection,[15] and the political nature of Tea Party movement supporters.[18]
