I am a bachelor student studying medical and pharmaceutical Biotechnology in Austria. I am very interested in receptor ligand interactions due to their high pharmacological relevance. NPY-family peptides and receptors are especially interesting as they are involved in appetite regulation.

Ich bin ein Bachelor-Student für medizinische und pharmazeutische Biotechnologie in Österreich. Ich bin sehr an Rezeptor-Ligand-Wechselwirkungen aufgrund ihres hohen pharmakologischen Relevanz interessiert. NPY-Familie Peptide und Rezeptoren sind besonders interessant, da sie in der Regulierung des Appetits beteiligt sind.

Die Biotechnologie wird erst dann von den Bürgern unserer Mitgliedstaaten wirklich akzeptiert werden, wenn sie mit echten Sicherheitsgarantien verbunden ist.

(2) Article 1 of the Protocol specifies that, in accordance with the precautionary approach contained in Principle 15 of the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, the objective of the Protocol is to contribute to ensuring an adequate level of protection in the field of safe transfer, handling and use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) resulting from modern biotechnology that may have adverse effects on the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity, taking also into account risks to human health and specifically focusing on transboundary movements.

(2) Gemäß Artikel 1 des Protokolls zielt das Protokoll im Einklang mit dem Vorsorgeprinzip in Grundsatz 15 der Erklärung von Rio über Umwelt und Entwicklung darauf ab, zur Sicherstellung eines angemessenen Schutzniveaus bei der sicheren Weitergabe, Handhabung und Verwendung der durch moderne Biotechnologie hervorgebrachten genetisch veränderten Organismen (GVO), die nachteilige Auswirkungen auf die Erhaltung und nachhaltige Nutzung der biologischen Vielfalt haben können, beizutragen, wobei auch Risiken für die menschliche Gesundheit zu berücksichtigen sind und ein Schwerpunkt auf grenzüberschreitenden Verbringungen liegt.

This is an important matter, and Parliament knows that I agree that we need liability provisions in a wide range of areas, including biotechnology.

Das ist ein wichtiger Punkt, und das Parlament weiß, daß ich auch der Meinung bin, daß wir derartige Haftungsvorschriften für eine ganze Reihe Bereiche benötigen, wozu unter anderem die Biotechnologie gehört.
