As a ruler, Alfonso showed great legislative capacity, and a wish to provide his subjects with a code of laws and a consistent judicial system. As a writer and intellectual he gained considerable scientific fame based on his encouragement of astronomy. He made his Court a multicultural haven for artists, scientists, and musicians of all backgrounds. The king himself composed poetry and learned treatises, and left an enduring cultural legacy that continues to this day. And thus we endeavor to emulate King Alfonso the Wise, to gather together men and women of Honor around the World in our noble Order, ad perpetuam

Interesse, ist die wichtigste Inspiration für unsere edlen Auftrag der spanische König Alfons X. der Weise, die auch als "König der drei Religionen", König von Kastilien (1221-1284) bekannt. Als Herrscher zeigte Alfonso große Gesetzgeber tätig wird, und der Wunsch, seine Untertanen mit einem Code von Gesetzen und einer einheitlichen Rechtssystem zu verschaffen. Dr Spencer Lilley is a Senior Lecturer in Māori and Multicultural Education at Massey University in New Zealand. He is a former library and information professional, with over 25 years experience in academic and special libraries. He is a Fellow and former President of the Library and Information Association of New Zealand Aotearoa and a founding and Honorary Life Member of Te Rōpū Whakahau (Māori in Libraries and Information Management Inc.) Spencer has tribal affiliations to Te Atiawa, Muaupoko and Ngapuhi. His research interests include, Māori information behaviour, indigenous information policy, and the application of social media in indigenous contexts.

Er ist ein ehemaliger professioneller Bibliotheks-und Informationswissenschaft, mit über 25 Jahren Erfahrung in der akademischen und Fachbibliotheken. Er ist Mitglied und ehemaliger Präsident der Library and Information Association of New Zealand Aotearoa und Gründungsmitglied und Ehrenmitglied auf Lebenszeit der Te Rōpū Whakahau (Maori in Bibliotheken und Information Management Inc.) Spencer hat Stammeszugehörigkeit nach Te Atiawa, Muaupoko und Ngapuhi.
