However, the Killerspin organization received funding of $20,000 the first year, $200,000 in 2003 and $100,000 in 2004 in order to subsidize its operations. The Los Angeles Times also discovered that only one day after Obama wrote his letter urging that Killerspin receive the grant, Blackwell contributed another $1,000 to Obama’s Senate campaign.
